Ishkhan Saghatelyan, representative of the ARF Supreme Body and MP from the “Armenia” faction, stated on Facebook that all “genuine opposition forces must organize national resistance through calculated steps, without succumbing to emotion or pressure.”
“It is difficult to speak politically under the rule of these degenerate scoundrels, but there’s a question that needs answering: Why are they doing this? What is the purpose?
I believe the main reasons are:
a) Laying the groundwork for upcoming repression and arrests. This isn’t the first time the regime leader has tried to portray himself as a victim. He did the same in November 2020, claiming an assassination plot. The same pattern followed during the Resistance Movement and the Holy Struggle. It’s nothing new. The goal remains: initiate another wave of repression and illegality under the guise of protecting the nation to retain power.
b) Just as critical is the method of this campaign. With vile conduct and rhetoric, the message is that politics is immoral. By dragging political discourse to this level and making everyone—from clergy to businessmen—part of it, they aim to instill fear and disgust, driving people away from politics. A disengaged public only benefits the regime.
c) Internally, the regime is creating a hostile polarization, using hate speech to rally its supporters. By targeting figures that are also problematic for Azerbaijan and Turkey, it seeks their implicit support to crush national resistance from within.
In this situation, all genuine opposition forces must act strategically, without emotional responses, and continue organizing national resistance without giving in to pressure,” the post reads.
On the morning of June 25, law enforcement agencies began searches at the homes of Holy Struggle supporters. The Investigative Committee stated that the movement's leaders and participants were planning terrorist acts and a power grab in Armenia.
