Bagrat Galstanyan arrested for two months

Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, leader of the “Sacred Struggle” movement, has been remanded in custody for two months. His lawyer, Hovhannes Khudoyan, announced the decision following the court session, according to Armenpress.

Khudoyan said they plan to appeal the ruling.

Galstanyan is charged under articles related to terrorism, inciting mass unrest, and plotting to seize power. He denies all charges and claims the case is politically motivated.

The Investigative Committee has petitioned for the detention of 16 individuals connected to the case. The court has approved the arrest of nine. A decision on one case will be announced on June 26, with hearings for the remaining requests also scheduled for that date.

On the morning of June 25, law enforcement began searches at the homes of “Holy Struggle” movement supporters. The Investigative Committee stated that the movement’s leaders and members were planning acts of terrorism and an illegal power grab.

On June 24, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan shared an article titled “The Opposition’s Coup Plan” from civic.am on Facebook, commenting: “This process will go down in history as the ‘traitors’ failed coup’.”
