Representatives of His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia—His Grace Archbishop Shaheh Sarkissian, Inspector of the Cilicia Library, and His Grace Bishop Tachat Ashjian, Chief of Staff of the Catholicosate—met with His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians, at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

The envoys conveyed Catholicos Aram I’s concerns and his perspective on resolving the current situation. In turn, they also heard Karekin II’s views and worries regarding the same.

Both high-ranking clerics emphasized, on behalf of their respective Catholicosates, the vital need to preserve the Armenian Church’s unity and organization in its spiritual mission and national service.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had earlier stated on Facebook that “it is necessary to take active steps to free the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and organize new Catholicos elections.” He added that a Coordinating Group should be formed to handle organizational matters, noting that he would personally take responsibility for selecting its first ten members.
