Levon Zurabyan, deputy chair of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) and its candidate for prime minister, addressed the party’s recent decision to run in the 2026 elections, stating that they are committed to achieving victory together — a victory that “must belong not just to the ANC, but to the entire nation.”
He warned that Armenia faces a volatile geopolitical environment threatening statehood, with the country confronting serious challenges, reports Panorama.am.
“This government continues to deepen the threats and challenges already weighing heavily on the people. In the seven years of Nikol Pashinyan’s rule, due to mismanagement, ignorance, incompetence — and in some cases, I agree, betrayal — Armenia has had ten military clashes with Azerbaijan. This happened because Pashinyan rejected the 2019 Armenia-favorable peace proposal made by our closest allies, undermining their role as mediators and deterrents against Azerbaijani aggression. As a result, we entered a destructive path, losing Artsakh, 5,000 precious lives, strategically important sovereign territories and high grounds, and we are now facing the threat of the ‘Zangezur corridor,’” he said.
Zurabyan stressed that the situation is deteriorating, with Armenia in a state of “creeping capitulation”, and Azerbaijan issuing new daily demands that threaten the country’s identity.
“Armenia is facing the threat of Azerbaijanization,” he declared.
He also addressed Armenia’s socioeconomic decline, a sharp drop in foreign investment, and tax pressure on entrepreneurs, citing failures across all sectors as evidence of the current administration’s complete inaction.
In closing, Zurabyan said that the people must make a decisive choice in the 2026 elections and highlighted ANC’s advantages, attributing past successes during the Armenian National Movement era, including Armenia’s independence, victory in the First Nagorno-Karabakh War, international recognition of Armenia, and Azerbaijan’s acknowledgment of Artsakh as a conflict party, to their political legacy.
Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 2026.
