
During the latest round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Armenia and Italy held in Rome, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan and Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Edmondo Cirielli discussed ways to strengthen and advance bilateral relations.
The two sides reviewed the recent positive momentum in Armenian-Italian relations, highlighting the role of high-level reciprocal visits as crucial to deepening political dialogue and fostering effective economic cooperation.
A wide range of bilateral agenda items was addressed. Both parties emphasized the importance of joint efforts to boost trade volumes, promote investment, and expand cooperation in high-tech, tourism, education, culture, and other sectors.
The diplomats also exchanged views on strategic dimensions of the Armenia–European Union partnership. Preparations for the 8th European Political Community Summit, set to take place in Armenia in 2026, and the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), were also discussed.
Vahan Kostanyan briefed the Italian side on developments in the South Caucasus after August 8, 2025, outlining Armenia's position on the evolving regional landscape.
He also spoke about the January 13, 2026, meeting between Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, noting the adoption of a joint Armenia–U.S. implementation framework under the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) initiative.
On August 8, during a trilateral meeting at the White House between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, a Joint Declaration summarizing the Washington meeting’s outcomes was signed.
In Washington, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of their respective leaders and the U.S. President, pre-signed the “Agreement on Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
