On January 23, the official opening ceremony of the new building of the Sos Sargsyan National Theater took place in Yerevan. The venue features a modern stage, state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems, essential technical infrastructure, dressing rooms, and makeup areas. The first floor houses a small experimental stage, while the second floor hosts a large auditorium with over 230 seats.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, accompanied by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan, toured the building and reviewed the newly established facilities.
The theater’s construction, based on a design by Isahak Nersisyan, began in 2019 and was funded by the state budget and private donors. More than 275 million drams were allocated from Armenia’s state budget: 205 million drams for equipment and furnishing, and 70 million drams for construction.
The opening event was marked by a performance of Maurice Maeterlinck’s The Miracle of Saint Anthony.
In 2026, the Sos Sargsyan National Theater will celebrate its 35th anniversary. Until now, it operated without its own dedicated building, using facilities at the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography.
