Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan took part in a discussion held on January 29 by the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, where he presented recent developments, particularly progress in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
Addressing Armenia’s ambitious democratic reform agenda, Mirzoyan stated: “The choice is between sovereign democracy and an authoritarian path that leads to submission, and we have already made our choice,” according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.
The discussion also covered the implementation of agreements aimed at unblocking regional transport routes and the achievements made so far. Mirzoyan emphasized the importance of creating an inclusive network of transport and economic connectivity.
The minister and European parliamentarians exchanged views on ways to deepen Armenia–EU cooperation, noting that both sides are committed to putting the strategic partnership agenda into action.
Mirzoyan responded to questions from parliamentarians on international and regional developments, as well as Armenia’s efforts to counter hybrid threats. The lawmakers praised Armenia’s contributions to peacebuilding and the promotion of democracy.
The Foreign Minister expressed gratitude to the European Parliament for its consistent support of Armenia’s interests on crucial issues.
The session was chaired by Committee President David McAllister and attended by representatives of major political groups, including the head of the delegation for relations with South Caucasus countries, the Euronest PA co-chair, and the rapporteur on Armenia.
