Sergei Parajanov’s film “The Color of Pomegranates” was screened in South Korea 56 years after its release and entered the country’s top ten box office rankings during its first week, the Armenian National Cinema Center reported.
The film’s total box office revenue in Korea reached about $160,000.
“This exceptional work of Armenian cinema continues to be rediscovered in the international cultural environment, attracting new audiences and reaffirming its lasting presence in world cinema. At the Berlin International Film Festival, our partners from MK2 presented the Armenian National Cinema Center with the poster prepared for the Korean theatrical release of The Color of Pomegranates,” the statement said.
The film was restored through cooperation between the Armenian National Cinema Center, The Film Foundation’s World Cinema Project, and the Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna.
