Renowned pianist Lang Lang to perform in Yerevan

World-renowned pianist Lang Lang will perform in Yerevan for the first time on April 14 at a gala concert dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.

Commenting on his upcoming visit, Lang Lang said he is happy to perform in Armenia for the first time.

“I am very happy to perform in Armenia for the first time. I have always admired this country’s rich musical heritage, and it is very meaningful for me to present Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 to Armenian audiences. This music has so much emotion and soul. I look forward to performing it with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra and maestro Sergey Smbatyan. I feel that this is exactly the piece that should be played during my first visit,” he said, according to the orchestra.

The concert will take place at the main hall of the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, with Sergey Smbatyan conducting.

The event is organized with the support of Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.

Lang Lang has collaborated with many of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors and has taken part in numerous global events, including the opening ceremony of this year’s Winter Olympic Games.

In 2009, Time magazine included Lang Lang among the world’s 100 most influential people. He is also the founder of the Lang Lang International Music Foundation, which supports young talents and promotes music education.
