Armenia says no ban on airspace use

Armenia has not imposed any restrictions on the use of its airspace, including for Azerbaijani civilian aircraft, the Civil Aviation Committee said, dismissing what it described as unfounded speculation and misinformation.

The statement emphasized that, under subparagraph (b) of Article 9 of the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation, no member state of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) may apply discriminatory measures regarding the use of its airspace. Accordingly, Armenia has not imposed any bans on any country, including Azerbaijan.

In line with Armenian legislation and internationally accepted procedures, every international commercial transit flight through Armenia’s airspace is carried out based on a flight plan submitted by the airline, and no additional agreements between ICAO member states are required.

The committee added that if any restrictions on the use of Armenian airspace are introduced, information about them is published through official notices (NOTAM). Data on all international transit flights through Armenian airspace is provided by the air traffic service authority to relevant Armenian agencies.
