The American University of Armenia said it will hold March 30 classes online as a precautionary step, emphasizing that no direct threats have been identified.
The American University of Armenia announced that, for security reasons, the March 30 academic process has been organized in an online format, Aysor.am reports.
“Please note that, for security reasons and taking into account threats voiced by Iran regarding the targeting of American universities in Western Asia and the Middle East, all classes on Monday, March 30, will be held online. We emphasize that this is purely a precautionary measure. The university is closely monitoring the situation and will inform about any changes to the schedule or format of instruction.
We would like to stress that no direct threat to our university has been recorded, and there are no grounds to consider the university at risk; therefore, there is no reason for panic. Dear members of the AUA community, please regularly check your emails and rely only on official university communications for updates,” the statement said.
Iran has said it could carry out strikes against American and Israeli universities operating in the region in response to attacks on its own institutions. Several American universities have branches in Persian Gulf countries, including Texas A&M University in Qatar and New York University in the United Arab Emirates.
