Kamo Unanyan, a multiple world and European karate champion, secured an impressive victory over Iranian fighter Amir Bakhramedjan at the Hype Fighting MMA tournament held on March 28, according to the Armenian Karate Federation.
“I had planned an aggressive fight strategy from the very beginning. It worked perfectly, as my opponent was not prepared for such a fast pace, and the move I had planned fully succeeded,” Unanyan said, commenting on his win.
This victory carried two key meanings for Unanyan. First, with this dominant result, he reaffirmed his place in the MMA arena, maintaining his unbeaten record of eight wins and no losses. Secondly, it marked his first fight following a complex spinal surgery.
Over the past six months, Unanyan had not trained and only recently resumed rehabilitation workouts. Despite a last-minute opponent change and significant health risks, he accepted the challenge and executed it successfully.
“To be honest, I have not fully recovered yet. But I do not have time to wait for full healing, as time moves quickly in a sports career. I took a calculated risk to participate in the tournament and already have a victory,” the champion admitted.
Unanyan’s competition schedule is already set. This year, he plans another MMA bout scheduled for May 30 as part of the MIX Fight tournament. After that, the schedule for the rest of the year will become clear. In addition, the champion intends to compete in various versions of world and European karate championships, the federation said.
