Armenian football fans demand FFA chief step down

Members of the First Armenian Front fan movement have once again called for the resignation of Armenian Football Federation president Armen Melikbekyan.

“The action we carried out during the Armenia–Belarus match was meant to once again demonstrate that Armen Melikbekyan, contrary to his many statements, is clinging to the FFА presidency and trying at all costs to retain it and secure a third term. This would eliminate any hope for the development of football in Armenia over the next 4–5 years.

Melikbekyan’s second term is nearing its end. In the near future, we will summarize in various formats the seven years of ineffective leadership and its ‘achievements.’ However, one thing is clear even to the naked eye—they have failed in all aspects of Armenian football.

The removal of ‘Melikbekyan and his associates’ from Armenian football is necessary and inevitable,” the statement reads.

Earlier, FFА president Armen Melikbekyan stated that he would not resign from his position, while also noting that he is not clinging to the post. He said that some clubs had tried to obtain privileges and advantages over others from the federation and, after failing to do so, became strong opponents.
