“Our Path to Independence” film released on YouTube

The documentary “Our Path to Independence” by Tigran Paskevichyan is now available on the official YouTube page of the Public Television of Armenia. This was announced by the broadcaster’s executive director Hovhannes Movsisyan.

“The ‘banned film’ is now available on the official YouTube page of Public Television. Why are we publishing it now?

The court recently issued a decision stating that the author had violated the copyright of Public Television. Earlier, the author had also failed to meet the film’s delivery deadlines.

As a result, now that Public Television’s rights have been restored, and with the consent of the Public Broadcaster’s Council, we are making the film publicly available so that everyone can evaluate it.

With this, I consider the issue closed,” Movsisyan wrote.

Tigran Paskevichyan created the documentary in 2020 by order of Public Television, presenting political developments that took place between 1988 and 1991. However, the film was not broadcast for a long time, despite being funded from the state budget. Moreover, Public Television had restricted various formats of its screening through court decisions, including theatrical showings, Panorama.am reports.

Paskevichyan had previously stated: “Since I have no reasonable explanation as to why the film is not being shown, I tend to assume it is for political reasons. The current authorities are trying to revise Armenia’s modern history starting from 1988. You may have heard Nikol Pashinyan’s statements claiming that the Karabakh movement was a mistake, a trap.

I created a film based on real facts. Let people see the real facts and compare them with Nikol Pashinyan’s statements.”
