Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said after the Antalya Diplomacy Forum that he hopes a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia will be signed soon.

“Turkey hopes that the peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia will be signed as soon as possible,” he said, according to Report.az .

Fidan added that normalizing relations among Azerbaijan, Turkey and Armenia would be economically beneficial.

“Our region’s role in implementing the Middle Corridor is extremely important, because stability in the South Caucasus matters for this corridor’s security. The Zangezur corridor is a very important route for Turkey. We are also working on this issue with the European Union. The signing of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia contributes to the development of all countries in the region. We are very close to this,” the Turkish minister added.

Fidan said Turkey has made major efforts to help ensure peace in the South Caucasus.

On August 8, at a trilateral meeting at the White House attended by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, a joint declaration was signed on the results of the meeting held in Washington.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the U.S., initialed the Agreement “On peace and the establishment of interstate relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
