The United States has urged its citizens to leave Iran as soon as possible, pointing to land exit options, including via Armenia, Factor.am reported citing the U.S. Virtual Embassy in Iran.
Since April 21, Iran’s airspace has been partially reopened. U.S. citizens have been advised to depart now, monitor local media updates, and contact commercial carriers for additional information on outbound flights.
It was noted that Americans wishing to leave Iran can also use land routes, traveling to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, or Turkmenistan. At the same time, they were warned not to travel to Afghanistan, Iraq, or the Iran-Pakistan border area.
The Agarak/Norduz crossing on the Armenia border is reported to be open.
U.S. citizens entering Armenia from Iran must have a valid U.S. passport and may stay visa-free for up to 180 days. Dual U.S. citizens planning to enter Armenia using Iranian or Armenian passports do not require prior authorization.
It was also emphasized that Azerbaijan’s land borders remain closed for regular transit.
U.S. citizens who urgently need to leave Iran are advised to first consider other available options. Turkmenistan’s land borders are also open, but special permission from Turkmen authorities is required before approaching the border.
