U.S. House panel backs increased aid to Armenia

The U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee has approved the fiscal year 2027 bill for national security, the State Department, and related programs, envisaging expanded support for South Caucasus countries, including Armenia, Armenpress reports.

The document states: “The Committee provides funding to countries of the South Caucasus to advance United States strategic interests through efforts to expand regional peace, stability, integration, and connectivity, as well as to actively support bilateral strategic partnership charters.” Within this framework, the Committee increases assistance to Armenia compared to last year under the International Military Education and Training and Foreign Military Financing programs.

The Committee strongly supports U.S. efforts to promote lasting peace in the South Caucasus and to strengthen the security and prosperity of countries in the region, referring to the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) initiative.

In particular, it is noted that within 90 days after the law’s adoption, the Secretary of State must submit a detailed report to Congress on the allocation of funds and steps taken under TRIPP.

The report should also include implementing partners, including institutions providing investment financing, and describe the role of other federal agencies such as the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency in ensuring the program’s implementation and effective operation.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington confirmed a document on Armenia–U.S. joint work within the TRIPP framework.

The published TRIPP implementation document outlines the procedures for launching the initiative. The framework does not create and is not intended to create legal obligations for Armenia or the United States.
