Macron thanks Armenia for warm welcome

French President Emmanuel Macron, whose state visit to Armenia has concluded, published a message in Armenian on his Facebook page.

“France loves you,” he wrote.

Macron also shared a video of his speech delivered at Vardanants Square in Gyumri.

During the “Musical Bridge: Armenia-France” concert held in Gyumri, Macron thanked the Armenian people for the warm reception shown to him throughout the state visit.

He said the tragedy of December 1988 remains alive in collective memory and recalled that France stood beside Armenia during that difficult period, Armenpress reported.

“Charles Aznavour sang, France united, and more than 500 firefighters, soldiers and rescue specialists came to help you, and Gyumri was reborn. We know the hardships you have endured in recent years. Just as we stood by your side in December 1988, we will stand by you now. Thank you, Gyumri, thank you, Armenia. Never forget that France loves you. Long live Armenia, long live France and long live Gyumri,” Macron said.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted that the concert in Gyumri became the final event of the French president’s state visit.

“The reception has been so warm that President Macron could not imagine leaving without greeting all of you. On my behalf, I thank you for this warm welcome. In France, I used to tell him that he enjoys enormous popularity in Armenia, and he would say I was exaggerating. Now, whenever we see scenes like this, I tell him: see, I was not exaggerating,” Pashinyan said.

At Zvartnots Airport, Macron was seen off by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, President Vahagn Khachaturyan, National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan, Chief of Staff Arayik Harutyunyan and Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan.

The French president attended the 8th summit of the European Political Community in Yerevan on May 4. Macron’s state visit to Armenia began on May 5.
