Yerevan, Paris expand education cooperation

Armenia and France will cooperate on developing a project to establish a French university in Armenia’s Academic City and encourage the involvement of leading French higher education institutions. The initiative is outlined in the section on culture and education of the joint declaration on strategic partnership between the two countries.

The sides will also expand cooperation and exchange expertise between the Armenian Film Foundation, France’s National Center for Cinema and Animated Image and the French Cinematheque.

Armenia and France emphasized the important role of media in promoting Francophonie, particularly through the activities of France24 and Radio France Internationale (RFI), whose outreach both countries intend to support. The sides may also contribute to the promotion and broadcasting of TV5Monde and the TV5MondePlus digital platform in Armenia.

The two countries pledged support for teaching French in Armenia and Armenian in France. They also highlighted the importance of their membership in the International Organization of La Francophonie, as well as the activities of the French University in Armenia, the French Institute in Armenia and the Anatole France French International School Complex.

The parties will support the development of the Anatole France French International School Complex, describing it as a cornerstone of educational cooperation. They also plan to promote the translation and publication of Armenian-language literature in France and wider distribution of French-language literature in Armenia.

Armenia and France will strengthen cooperation among universities, schools and vocational education institutions in professional and continuing education through exchange programs, training courses and master classes, including with the use of the Erasmus+ program.

The two countries will deepen university cooperation by developing joint and dual-degree programs, particularly within the framework of the French University in Armenia.

Armenia and France also agreed to carry out joint scientific research in areas of mutual interest, establish researcher mobility programs and strengthen ties between French national research institutions and Armenia’s Higher Education and Science Committee.

The sides pledged to deepen cultural dialogue both bilaterally and within multilateral institutions. They will strengthen cooperation in preserving cultural heritage, especially within UNESCO and the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage (ALIPH).

The countries also plan to develop cooperation between their UNESCO national commissions and expand ties in museum, heritage and archaeology sectors through educational programs focused on conservation and restoration, particularly with support from France’s National Heritage Institute.

Armenia and France will encourage cooperation in artistic creation, cultural and creative industries, as well as exchanges of ideas. They will promote partnerships between Armenian and French cultural institutions, participation in major cultural events in both countries, professional meetings and artist residency programs.

The sides will also promote youth exchanges through joint programs, volunteer initiatives and school partnerships.

In addition, Armenia and France agreed to strengthen sports cooperation by sharing experience in organizing major sporting events, particularly in the context of the 2027 Francophonie Games, as well as exchanging expertise on training elite athletes and inclusion policies.
