Observer alliance cites possible election violations

Participation by school employees and students in the Aparan region in a Civil Contract party election campaign instead of attending classes may constitute an apparent violation of Article 23 of the Electoral Code and Article 84 of the Labor Code, Union of Informed Citizens NGO coordinator Daniel Ioannisyan wrote on Facebook.

“The Independent Observer alliance is considering applying to court over this incident and demanding administrative liability under Article 40.8 of the Code on Administrative Offenses,” he wrote.

Ioannisyan added that the Independent Observer alliance currently has no evidence that teachers or students participated in the campaign against their will. According to him, if such evidence emerges, the incident could already contain elements of an act prohibited under the Criminal Code.

“Therefore, if anyone provides evidence that teachers or students at those schools were forced to participate, they will receive a reward of up to 500,000 drams from the Union of Informed Citizens,” he wrote.

The election campaign that began on May 8 will continue until June 5. June 6 will be a day of silence, while elections are scheduled for June 7.
