Armenia revises military fitness regulations

Citizens with certain health conditions will now be able to serve on a contractual basis. The government introduced amendments and additions to the decision regulating “the list of diseases determining the degree of fitness of a citizen or serviceman for military service, as well as military service conditions contraindicated for a citizen or serviceman’s health condition.”

In particular, some provisions of the decision did not allow individuals undergoing medical examination to reapply for and participate in contractual military service in cases where significant functional impairments had previously been recorded, but after recovery and partial restoration of functionality, mobility had been restored through assistive devices such as crutches, prosthetics or, in some pathologies, wheelchairs.

As a result of the proposed amendments, citizens with certain health conditions will also have the opportunity to join contractual military service.
