Russian official accuses Armenia of unfriendly actions

Armenia has taken a number of steps that Russia views as “clearly unfriendly in nature,” including deliberately worsening conditions for Russian businesses operating in the country, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said during a meeting of a special working group of Russia’s Security Council.

He also described Armenia’s accession to the International Criminal Court as one of those unfriendly steps, TASS reported.

“In recent years, a number of actions have been carried out in Armenia’s parliament that have clearly been unfriendly in nature. This is how we assess joining the International Criminal Court, handing over Russian citizens to third countries, the deliberate worsening of conditions for Russian economic operators, which, by the way, provide jobs for tens of thousands of Armenian citizens. And finally, providing the platform of the European Political Community summit in Yerevan to the Kyiv regime for making threats against the Russian Federation,” Shoigu said.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin earlier stated that Moscow could not accept the course adopted by official Yerevan regarding membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, under which Armenia intends to remain a member until it succeeds in joining the European Union. Galuzin also recalled that Armenia had signed the treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union and documents on the union’s further development through 2030 and 2045.
