If the current authorities are re-elected, they will eventually say that “Sevan is Goycha, and that’s it,” Prosperous Armenia Party leader Gagik Tsarukyan said during a campaign meeting in the town of Vardenis in Gegharkunik Province.
He stated that for the current authorities, “lying has become a profession,” and claimed that during the election campaign people are being transported by buses or pressured into attending rallies, Aravot.am reported.
“They made some symbol, supposedly a map. What is it, did you just discover Armenia now while dividing and fragmenting it? Azerbaijanis are building bases, deploying troops and strongholds, they are not withdrawing, villagers cannot cultivate their lands, and meanwhile they say they are bringing peace,” the Prosperous Armenia leader said.
Tsarukyan said he wants to see the peace agreement signed and sealed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
“Azerbaijan’s appetite today is very large. They are now saying Sevan belongs to Azerbaijan and that its name is Goycha, while Yerevan is Iravan. On June 18-19 in Nakhchivan, Aliyev is implementing that program in order to create Western Azerbaijan,” Tsarukyan said.
He urged citizens to participate in the June 7 elections and remain united in order to prevent such developments. According to him, otherwise Armenia could face the fate of Արցախ.
“Aliyev is taking revenge. After their humiliation over those 30 years, he is taking revenge. He says: I will come, my people will come and settle there. We will not come with tanks, we will come with buses, but if you upset us, we will bring troops as well,” Gagik Tsarukyan said, recalling that authorities previously declared “Artsakh is Armenia, period,” whereas now Artsakh no longer exists.
According to him, the same scenario could happen again: “If they are re-elected, they will say, ‘Sevan is Goycha, period.’”
Regarding officials’ statements that there is no issue concerning the return of 300,000 Azerbaijanis, Tsarukyan advised people to read Ilham Aliyev’s speech from December 5, 2025.
Tsarukyan said the situation can still be changed by choosing the right allies. He also spoke about granting benefits to border communities, restoring the Agriculture Ministry, supporting agriculture, and developing small and medium-sized businesses and tourism.
“By emptying these areas, we are effectively handing them over to Azerbaijanis ourselves. The border must remain strong,” he stressed.
The election campaign that began on May 8 will continue until June 5. June 6 will be a day of silence, and elections will take place on June 7. On May 25, it became known that the Alliance Progressive Centrist Party had submitted a withdrawal request, after which the Central Electoral Commission invalidated the registration of the party’s electoral list. Ballot paper number 13 will not appear in the upcoming elections.
