Moscow welcomes the process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Turkey, according to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry ahead of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan’s upcoming visit to Moscow.
The statement notes that the “3+3” regional platform can contribute to strengthening peace and stability in the South Caucasus, according to information published on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s official website.
It emphasizes that the planned talks will pay particular attention to opportunities for expanding cooperation in the South Caucasus, including the unblocking of transport links and issues related to the region’s post-conflict recovery.
“Russia and Turkey are interested in having a peaceful and predictable South Caucasus. This can be achieved through joint efforts within the framework of the ‘3+3’ regional cooperation platform,” the statement says.
The “3+3” platform brings together the three South Caucasus countries — Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia — as well as Russia, Turkey and Iran. The format was established after the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war. Georgia does not participate in the platform’s activities.
