The Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Youth Organization of Armenia has issued a statement declaring that "fierce battles are being waged against the Artsakh flag in Yerevan."
According to the statement, for the past three days the Artsakh flag, originally installed by citizens in 2022 at France Square in Yerevan, has been repeatedly removed. Members of the ARF Youth Organization have replaced it each time by installing a new flag.
The organization said that on the evening of June 24, after the flag was removed for a third time, two ARF Youth members were detained while attempting to reinstall it.
"We must state that a reality has emerged in Armenia in which Armenian youth are detained for flying the Artsakh flag.
This is not merely another incident; it is another attack on our national symbols. The struggle against the Artsakh flag is, in reality, a struggle against Armenian memory, history, and values, and it best reveals the anti-national character of the current authorities.
No matter how hard they try to erase the national memory, the homeland that we will build through our struggle will be founded on our values and historical truth. In that homeland, the Artsakh flag will always have its rightful and irreplaceable place as a symbol of struggle, remembrance, and national dignity," the statement said.
