Russia halts Armenian fish imports

Russia has expanded restrictions on fish product imports from Armenia by temporarily suspending the certification of products from two additional Armenian companies until previously identified violations are remedied.

As a result, all fish product supplies from Armenia to Russia have been suspended.

According to Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor), the agency had previously asked the Armenian authorities to temporarily suspend certification of all fish products except those produced by the companies MF Export LLC and Invest Plus LLC, which had directly participated in inspections. Those companies had been placed under enhanced laboratory monitoring.

Rosselkhoznadzor said that, following an analysis of the inspection materials, a preliminary report had been prepared. Pending the correction of the identified violations and the submission of the required supporting documentation, it was decided to temporarily suspend certification for products from the two companies.

The agency also stressed that it continues to cooperate with the Armenian side to ensure the safety of fish and fish products supplied to the Russian market.

Russia has imposed a series of restrictions on imports of Armenian products. These include bans on Jermuk mineral water, flowers and certain alcoholic beverages, as well as restrictions on several agricultural products, including tomatoes, cucumbers and strawberries. Since June 2, Russia has also restricted the import and transit through the Eurasian Economic Union of cherries, apricots, peaches, plums, grapes and other stone fruits from Armenia. Since June 3, it has additionally restricted imports of Armenian eggplants, potatoes and dried fruits.
