Artsrun Hovhannisyan appointed defense university chief

Former Defense Ministry spokesperson, military analyst and expert, Colonel Artsrun Hovhannisyan has been appointed head of the National Defense Research University of the Ministry of Defense. Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan signed the decree based on the recommendation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Albert Baghdadyan has been relieved of his duties as head of the university.

Under separate presidential decrees, Major General Garegin Poghosyan was appointed commander of the Special Army Corps, while Major General Simon Nazaryan was appointed commander of the 2nd Army Corps.

Armen Gyozalyan was dismissed as commander of the Special Army Corps, Levon Davidyan as commander of the Special Operations Forces, and Hamlet Levonyan as head of the Defense Ministry's Armaments and Technical Support Department.

By order of Defense Minister Suren Papikyan, Major General Albert Baghdadyan was appointed adviser to the defense minister, while Major General Armen Gyozalyan was appointed deputy head of the Defense Ministry's Military Oversight Service.

Hovhannisyan served as press secretary to the head of Armenia's defense establishment from 2012 to 2020. During the 44-day war, he led the daily briefings of the Armenian Unified Platform center. In 2021, he was appointed expert to the National Assembly Standing Committee on Defense and Security, and in 2023 became head of the Marshal Hovhannes Baghramyan Command and Staff Institute of the Vazgen Sargsyan Military Academy of the Armenian Ministry of Defense.
