Gagik Tsarukyan’s associates and supporters from the Prosperous Armenia Party (PPA) delivered a letter to the Iranian ambassador in Armenia concerning the ongoing developments surrounding Tsarukyan.

After delivering the letter, PPA member Arman Abovyan said a senior embassy official had assured them that they were following the developments surrounding Gagik Tsarukyan, Aysor.am reports.

“We received assurances that this case will remain under the attention of the Islamic Republic of Iran and that they will consistently follow the matter,” Abovyan said.

Before delivering the letter, PPA spokesperson Iveta Tonoyan said several letters concerning Gagik Tsarukyan’s detention had been sent to various embassies, while this time they decided to personally deliver the BHK letter to the Iranian ambassador.

“It is unacceptable to us that the centuries-old Armenian-Iranian friendship is being jeopardized because of two citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran, fraudsters, two swindlers. Gagik Tsarukyan has always advocated strengthening Armenian-Iranian economic, cultural, trade and political ties and has done his utmost to develop and strengthen those relations between the two countries. This is a false, groundless accusation on the basis of which Gagik Tsarukyan has been arrested. There are also certain motives behind this, as well as certain individuals and forces whose clear objective is to worsen Armenian-Iranian relations. Mr. Ambassador, what is happening to Tsarukyan is legal lawlessness,” the PPA leader’s spokesperson said.

After delivering the letter, PPA supporters held a rally in support of Gagik Tsarukyan outside the Iranian Embassy in Yerevan.

Early on July 6, employees of the National Security Service, State Revenue Committee and Interior Ministry police conducted simultaneous searches at more than 70 addresses, including Tsarukyan’s mansion and companies belonging to him. Tsarukyan was detained. Early on July 7, a hearing on Tsarukyan’s pretrial measure began at the Court of General Jurisdiction of the Avan and Nor Nork administrative districts. By the end of the day, it became known that he had been remanded in custody for two months.
