A court has ordered house arrest as the preventive measure for Ara Nakhshkaryan, a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF), in a criminal case concerning alleged vote-buying. The information was announced by his lawyer, Hripsime Gasparyan.

The prosecution had requested that Nakhshkaryan be placed in pretrial detention for two months, according to Sputnik Armenia.

Ara Nakhshkaryan, a member of the ARF, was detained on July 29 in connection with alleged incidents of giving and receiving election bribes.

Earlier, on June 6, Armenia's Anti-Corruption Committee said it had uncovered a new alleged vote-buying scheme involving one of the parliamentary candidates from the Hayastan Alliance. The committee also released new audio recordings, one of which included a participant being addressed by the surname Nakhshkaryan.
