GEORGIAN PRESIDENT MAKES ARRANGEMENTS TO EXPEDITE REBUILDING OF DESTROYED BY EARTHQUAKE AREAS WHERE ARMENIANS LIVED
The head of Georgia Eduard Shevrdnadze urges the members of the government of the country to pay special attention to the families of Armenians suffered from the earthquake. The President has made arrangements to rebuild those houses where many Armenians lived. He has stated "the destruction of even a wall in the Armenian district can get a political meaning". It should be reminded that Tbilisi's Armenian district Avlabar suffered from the April 25 earthquake the most. As it is known, four of seven victims of the earthquakes were Armenians. Several houses were destroyed in Avlabar. Armenian churches St Gevorg and Echmiadznots as well as eight Armenian schools were damaged. The building of the Petros Adamian Armenian dramatic theater was also damaged.
