Viktor Yanukovych: GUAM activity irrelevant

Ukraine presidential hopeful, leader of the Party of Regions Viktor Yanukovych labeled the activity of GUAM (Georgia-Ukraine-Azerbaijan-Moldova) as irrelevant.

“During the past several years I heard much talk but saw no action,” Mr. Yanukovych said, Gazeta.ru reported.

GUAM, the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development, is a regional organization of four post-Soviet states: Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Moldova. GUAM's charter was signed during a summit in Yalta on June 6 to June 7, 2001 by the four current members and Uzbekistan, which later withdrew. During a summit in 2007, it was decided to form a GUAM peacekeeping force. However, the initiative was later blocked by Moldova.
