Armenian singer Sona Shahgeldyan wins New Wave 2010 song contest

Armenian Singer Sona Shahgeldyan won New Wave 2010 song contest completed on July 31 in Jurmala.

According to 3 contest day results, the Armenian singer gained 288 points, leaving Tatiana Shirko of Ukraine only one point behind. Estonia’s Uku Suviste came third.

Competition prize fund is Euro 100 000 with Euro 50 000 granted for the first place, Euro 30 and 20 thousand for second and third places respectively.

As the singer noted, part of her prize money will be spent on assistance to stray animals, RIA Novosti reported.

New Wave is a song contest aiming to discover young performers of popular music. The contest was founded in 2002 by Russian composer Igor Krutoy and Latvian pianist and composer Raimonds Pauls. This year, the contest hosted 17 performers from 12 countries.
