Abraham vs. Froch bout not sanctioned as title fight

Contrary to the recent comments that were made by Carl Froch, World Boxing Council secretary general Mauricio Sulaiman said that Froch's bout with Arthur Abraham, scheduled for October 2, has not been sanctioned as a title fight, BoxingScene.com reported.

The current WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler is expected to vacate his title. Kessler will require up to nine months of therapy to treat an injury which is affecting his vision. Once Kessler officially vacates, then the two highest ranked available contenders, Abraham and Froch, should fall in line for that vacant title. Andre Dirrell is ranked at #1 by the WBC, but he challenges WBA champion Andre Ward in the third stage of Showtime's Super Six tournament.

"We have been in contact with all the camps, all of the promoters, and Showtime. The WBC agreed to be part of Super Six and to support the Super Six tournament, so we do not want to interfere with the tournament and we want to support the tournament," Sulaiman said.

"So we are trying to take of the situation. All of the camps they have sent their letters, with their positions, and we are sending this to the WBC's board of governors for a voting."
