Spokesman for the Republican Party of Armenia Eduard Sharmazanov said that the statements made by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a meeting with U.S. Under Secretary Williams Burns concerning the Russian President and Prime Minister prove that he has no idea of what diplomacy is.
Aliyev has gone beyond the bounds of decency, Sharmazanov told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.
“During a meeting with any country’s representative, a true diplomat would not discuss behavior of a third country,” he said, adding that the disclosure of these documents does not stem from Azerbaijan’s interests.
Commenting on its possible impact on the upcoming OSCE summit in Astana, Sharmazanov said that similar statements cannot have any impact on regional processes. However, he added that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will demand explanations from his Azerbaijani counterpart with respect to his statements. “Maybe not publicly, but “behind the scenes.”
As to whether it can affect the Russian-Azerbaijani relations, Sharmazanov said it is possible that the Azerbaijani President’s statements will cause Russians’ hostility.
