Rising superstar and current WBC Silver bantamweight world champion Abner Mares (21-0-1, 13 KOs) of Mexico, under the tutelage of renowned trainer Clemente Medina at the Maywood Boxing Club in Maywood, California, takes on IBF bantamweight world champion Joseph ‘King Kong’ Agbeko (28-2, 22 KOs) of Ghana on Saturday, April 23 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles, California.
In the co-feature bout, former bantamweight world champion Yonnhy ‘El Colombiano’ Perez (20-1-1, 14 KOs) of Colombia faces Vic ‘Raging Bull’ Darchinyan (35-3-1, 27 KOs) for the vacant IBO bantamweight title. The Bantamweight Tournament Final dubbed ‘Winner Takes All’ will be broadcast live on SHOWTIME and is being presented by Golden Boy Promotions, Don King Productions, Gary Shaw Productions and Thompson Boxing Promotions, fightnews.com reported.
In December of last year, Abner Mares impressively defeated Vic Darchinyan via split decision after twelve exciting back-and-forth rounds at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma, Washington to claim the vacant WBC Silver bantamweight title.
“My last fight with Darchinyan was a big win for me; it was one of the toughest and biggest fights in my career but we went in there with something to prove and that’s what we did. Joseph Agbeko is a great fighter, very tough and a great champion and I’m expecting the best from him but we’ll definitely be ready for him. We’re training really hard for this fight and I know we’re going to give the fans a great fight,” said Abner Mares. “
