Apparently, Baku has not conceived essence of Deauville statement on Karabakh

Azerbaijan cannot stop and continues rattling the saboteur even against the background of the direct demand voiced in Deauville on soonest and only peace resolution of the Karabakh conflict. It appears that to calm down itself, Azerbaijan, represented by Spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Defense Army Eldar Sabiroglu, stated that its army “is the strongest one in South Caucasus and is ready to fulfill any military instruction.”

It remains a secret for everyone, including international experts, on which facts the statement is based. Early in 2011, a number of assessments for fighting capacity of South Caucasus armed forces have been provided by international experts as well as foreign media. According to them, quantitative advantage is the only benefit the Azeri army possesses. International Crisis Group noted that while Azerbaijan has an obvious advantage in military spending, a variety of other factors could give Armenia an edge. Morale and combat readiness in Armenia’s army is also generally considered to be higher than in Azerbaijan’s, which suffers from past defeats, extensive corruption and a rigid chain of command. “Despite small territory and population, Armenia’s army is considered to be the most professional, efficient and competent in the region,” an article published in Turkish newspaper said.

The veiled and open threats to launch a war against Karabakh are specifically absurd, taking into consideration the recent developments, when the three superpowers directly involved in the Karabakh conflict settlement stated that its resolution can no longer be delayed, strongly urging the leaders of the sides to prepare their populations for peace, not war.

Most likely, Azerbaijan has not understood the message of Russia, France and the U.S. completely, considering it to be another declarative and insignificant statement. It is also possible that Azerbaijan is unwilling to conceive the message, seeing how it loses the dream of starting a new war in Karabakh to check the efficiency of weapons purchased liberally, as well as of “the strongest army in the region,” the incompetence of which was once proved by the NKR armed forces.
