June 12 marks the 19th anniversary of the death of Artsakh and Armenia’s national hero Yuri Poghosyan.
Poghosyan was born in 1961 in Russia. He then grew up in Stepanakert, Nagorno Karabakh, where he opened his own car repair point which was later transformed into one of the small arms production facilities for the Artsakh liberation movement.
In 1991, when the Artsakh defense army was being formed, Poghosyan became a commander of the 4th company. He fought in the most severe battles, proving as a fearless commander, guerrilla and field engineer.
Poghosyan was killed in 1992 at Askeran-Nakhijevank frontline. In October 1993 he was posthumously honored with NKR orders.
