During its annual meeting in Paris, Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IPAO), unanimously passed a resolution on the Genocide of Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians in Ottoman Empire.
“We, participants of the IPAO meeting, which took place on June 21-24 in Paris, call on the member states of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy and International community to condemn the Genocide of Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians in Ottoman Empire and urge Turkey to assume the responsibility for restoration of historic justice,” the resolution runs.
All 28 of IPAO member countries, including Albania, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Syria supported adoption of the resolution, head of Armenian delegation to Mkrtich Minasyan told a press conference in Yerevan.
“The civilized world must give a political assessment to the Armenian Genocide and urge Turkey to acknowledge this fact,” Minasyan said, adding that representatives of IPAO’s all 28 countries will submit the resolution to consideration of their countries’ parliaments.
In turn, member of the Armenian delegation Ruzan Arakelyan noted that the resolution in such important structure as IPAO is a victory which is a result of long work of the delegation.
After European Parliament and the Council of Europe, Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy is the third international organization to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
