NATO officials hold talks with Libyan opposition

A delegation of Libya's National Transitional Council headed by its diplomatic chief Mahmoud Jibril is meeting with top NATO officials as the allied bombing campaign nears the end of its fourth month.

NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said the meeting would be an opportunity to hear from the Libyan opposition "about how they see the situation on the ground and how they see the way ahead."

The Libyans will also meet with top European Union officials, including Jose Manuel Barroso, president of the European Commission. In May, EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton extended de-facto recognition to the transitional council when it opened a diplomatic office in Benghazi and pledged support for a democratic Libya, The Associated Press reported.
