Armenian architects will stop at nothing to save Gandzasar monastery

Armenian architects threaten to stop at nothing to save Gandzasar monastery.

As the deputy chairman of the Armenian association of architects-restorers Stepan Nalbandyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, unless the coating of the monastery fence is brought to its original form, the architects will apply to UNESCO.

“Still, we're very reluctant to politicize the issue. We're considering turning to All Armenian Catholicos for assistance or organizing a strike at the monastery to raise awareness of the problem,” Nalbandyan said.

According to the architect, the initiator of the monastery fence restoration, Levon Hayrapetryan, currently in Paris, is expected to arrive at the site to jointly decide on further actions.

“Tasteless coating is only harming the monastery. By conducting restoration works, the benefactors are ruining the history,” Nalbandyan stressed.
