Well-known French director and actor of Armenian origin Zhirayr Papazian believes Armenian culture is lost to Diaspora, which only cares about Genocide-related issues.

“When asked about cultural events hosted by French Diaspora, the only ones I can name are scientific conferences on Genocide,” the director said.

As he noted, Diaspora audience takes more interest in pulp performances rather than serious national productions.

“Currently, charity organizations refuse to provide financing, citing means spent in Armenia. Diaspora schools, clubs, newspapers get closed down. I believe, capitalist mentality is to blame for it, with income becoming the only thing of value,” Papazian said.

Zhirayr Papazian has been living and working in France for over 20 years. The staging of the Anush and Arshak II operas, as well as Ararat Station performance are among his theatrical achievements.
