Explosion in nuclear power plant in France: radiation leak threat

An explosion at the Marcoule nuclear plant in southeastern France on Monday has killed at least one person, Le Figaro reports.

The country's nuclear safety body says there was no leak of radioactive material.

Three people were also injured in the explosion, according to reports.

The Agency for Nuclear Safety said the explosion took place near a furnace.

Marcoule, a nuclear waste management site, does not include any reactors. But it is a major site involved with the decommissioning of nuclear facilities, and operates a pressurized water reactor used to produce tritium.

The Marcoule site is located in the Gard region of France, in Langedoc Roussillon, near the Mediterranean Sea.

The explosion took place at about 11:45 by local time (14:45 by Yerevan time).
