Baku’s World Championships organizers would never raise Armenian flag - boxer

Armenian boxer Andranik Hakobyan (75 kg) who’ve won an entry to 2012 London Olympics at Baku-hosted World Championships, confessed to having achieved the impossible.

“I won 3 fights, and with a huge advantage over my challengers too. Still, in ¼ finals the victory was given to my rival, with championship organizers unwilling to raise an Armenian flag in Baku. In the 3rd round, almost none of the challenger’s blows landed on me, but he still won. In the previous two rounds, we were equal,” Hakobyan said.

“Although surrounded by security guards, we were still strained, unable to fully concentrate on the clash ahead. During my 3rd fight, someone threw stones at me, luckily, they touched no one. We weren’t able take a walk or communicate with any of other squads. That couldn’t but affect our psyche,” the boxer said.
