Over 20 years since Karabakh conflict outbreak, the refugees are the ones to suffer most in the face of uncertainty, according to the former chairman of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

As Goran Lennmarker stressed, “it's important to settle the conflict now, with the both sides ready to find a compromise.”

“The issue of Nagorno Karabakh status should be left to be decided in future. Based on European experience, a provisional status is assigned first, to be followed by a final one. It's impossible to simultaneously resolve several problems,” Lennmarker said, urging the parties to show political will.

“In 2008, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan was close to resolving the problem while the situation around Armenia-Turkey border was under discussion. However, Armenian Diaspora halted the process. The opening of Armenia-Turkey border could have positively affected Karabakh settlement,” he noted.
