South Ossetia border with Russia closed

The border between South Ossetia and Russia has temporarily been shut down.

"This measure was taken due to the political situation in the republic, as well as to prevent any provocative acts. It is a temporary measure. Citizens who cross the border should refrain from travel for the time being," a spokesman for the republic's law enforcement agencies said, according to Interfax.

Meanwhile, the situation in South Ossetia is escalating. Earlier today, former presidential candidate of South Ossetia Alla Dzhioeva expressed intention to ask for political asylum in Russia.
