In 2011, Armenian weightlifters brought home 55 medals, winning 17 gold, 13 silver and 25 bronze ones at European and World Championships.

However, the president of Armenian Weightlifting Federation Samvel Khachatryan says the results could have been better, as compared with 2010 when the weightlifters grabbed 70 medals.

Though dissatisfied with Armenia’s performance at World Championships, on the positive side, the president noted 6 ranking points provided as a result.

According to Khachatryan, Armenian wrestlers showed good results at world youth tournaments, with Gor Minasyan having won gold in addition to 2 silver and 2 bronze medals the team brought. At European Youth Championships, Gor Minasyan set a record lifting 181 kg in clean & jerk discipline.

Aghasi Aghasyan became the 1st place winner at World Universiade; Hayk Hakobyan gained the 3rd place.
