Turkish FM urges for “opening” Armenia’s open archives

Yerevan must open its historical archives for the study of 1915 events, Turkish Foreign Minister said.

“We’ve repeatedly expressed readiness to study the events of 1915, expecting Armenia to open its historical archives as well,” Ahmet Davutoglu said.

As opposed to Ankara, which keeps its archives closed to both foreigners and Turkish citizens, Armenia’s archives are open for those interested to study them.

On the sidelines of Armenian-Turkish rapprochement, formation of a joint historical committee was planned to study 1915 events in Ottoman Empire. Armenia, however, disagreed, stressing the historical fact of Genocide is unquestionable.
