Full shift to proportional system to enhance Armenia’s political field

Heritage opposition party member believes full shift to proportional electoral system as a step towards enhancement of Armenia’s political field.

Armen Martirosyan noted the shift to be a major move towards holding fair and transparent elections, resulting in several political forces’ inability to justify election violations through acts of candidates elected via majority system.

According to the MP, the step will also bring about parties’ inclusion of odious figures in their voting lists and bearing responsibility for them.

Armenian National Assembly includes 131 parliamentarians, with 41 MPs elected through majority system; 90 MPs - through proportional system.

On December 27, Heritage and ARF Dashnaktsutyun opposition parties issued a joint statement urging for a full shift to proportional electoral system.
