What are secrets behind 'peace-loving' Baku?

On January 23, Sochi will host a subsequent trilateral meeting with Presidents of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan who will discuss Nagorno Karabakh conflict resolution process.

What results will the meeting yield for the sides? Declarative statements? Pledges? Subsequent failure organized by Azerbaijan during the last trilateral meeting held in Kazan?

On January 24, Kazan hosted Karabakh talks at Medvedev’s initiative, however, with no agreement reached regarding the key principles of Karabakh settlement.

What will be Azerbaijan’s surprise this time? Quite peace-loving statements can recently be heard in Baku regarding the forthcoming meeting due to Deputy Speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament Bahar Muradova’s confidence suggesting “limit to peaceful resolution of the conflict is not exhausted.”

Moreover, the MP, demanding to find a substitute for the Minsk Group, this time stated that, “activity of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs can yield positive results regarding Karabakh settlement”, advising other co-chairing country’s to follow Russia’s suit.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijani MP Mubariz Gurbanli deems the forthcoming meeting in Sochi “as a positive attempt, with each meeting having certain impact on achieving a closer stance of the two states on this and other issues.”

He even reminded Aliev’s statement claiming that “Baku adheres to peaceful settlement of the conflict,” despite Azeri leader’s recent antagonistic views. This time the latter stated that “Azerbaijan will not allow for the war prevention to become the key topic of the talks,” implying that Baku attaches no importance to superpowers’ calls for peaceful resolution of the conflict.

What is the secret behind such an unexpected shift of Azerbaijan’s position? In secret pledges by one of the negotiators? An attempt to give the world powers a pile of shit, or a preparation for another “surprise”?

Doubtlessly, Aliev will try hard to prevent any promotion of conflict resolution.
