Yesterday Armenian National Security head Karlos Petrosian met with his Georgian colleague Valeri Khaburdzania. As reported by A-info agency, the meeting was held in private in the town of Akhalkalaki, which is the administrative center of the Georgian Samtskhe-Javakheti region inhabited by Armenians for the most part. After that Petrosian met with the active functionaries of the region. The Armenians of Javakhetia touched upon the issues regarding the reconstruction by Armenia of the Bavra-Ninotsminda highway, exposure of the Georgian border sector between Samtskhe-Javakhetia and Turkey, nationalist and offensive statements by some Georgian politicians addressed to Armenians as well as the possibility of interference of the local enforcement bodies in the course of the parliamentary elections in Georgia. According to reliable sources, the objective of the meeting was the prevention of disorders in Samtskhe-Javakhetia before and after the parliamentary elections in Georgia to be held November 2.
